The number of places in Spain that you should visit are impossible to count. With this post we made a huge effort in choosing the top 20 places or monuments in Spain that you should visit at least once during your lifetime.
Alhambra – Granada
There is not a lot to say about this magical place apart for what has been already said. This place once was a palace, a citadel, a fortress and a residence of the Nasrid sultans, other high officials, court servants and soldiers. In 1984 this place was declared World Site Heritage together with the Generalife gardens that surround this stunning monument.

Plaza del Obradoiro – Santiago de Compostela
This beautiful square is the destination of the world renowned Camino de Santiago. It’s located right in the heart of the city. The square is dominated by the majestic baroque cathedral. The Hostal de los Reyes Católicos, the Palacio de Rajoy and the Colegio de San Jerónimo form a cultural complex unique in the world.

Alcázar de Sevilla
This building is a fortified palace build in various historic periods. Traces of Islamic, Gothic, Baroque, Renaissance and Mudejar style make this monument the oldest royal palace still in use in Europe. In 2017 it received almost 2 million visitors, making it the sixth most visited monument in Spain.

Playa de la Concha – San Sebastián
Situated between Mont Urgull, Igueldo and the island of Santa Clara, La Concha beach surely is one of the most beautiful “playas” of the entire peninsula. Taking walks in this location is considered a luxury. We recommend you to climb Mount Igueldo to contemplate all of its beauty.

Sagrada Familia – Barcelona
The most world-renowned Spanish monument abroad together with the Alhambra and the Prado Museum. Designed by Gaudí, its construction began in 1882 and despite not being finished, it is the most visited church in Europe after Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.

Mezquita de Córdoba
It is probably the most beautiful Muslim art in Spain. La Mezquita de Córdoba is a mixture of overlapping architectural styles that occurred during the 9 centuries which the renovations and constructions lasted. The imposing Roman bridge situated right beside the mosque makes this location even more special.

Parque Güell – Barcelona
This place is 17 hectares of pure fantasy. Wavy and geometric shapes, columns that look like trees, animal figures everywhere… of course created by Gaudí. It is the perfect balcony to overlook the entire city of Barcelona. A must.

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe – Bermeo
Only 35 km away from Bilbao this beautiful island preserves at the top a shrine dedicated to Juan Bautista. It is connected to the mainland with a narrow stone bridge composed of more than 240 stairs. By the way, legend says that if you touch the shrines bell three times all of your wishes will come true.

Museo del Prado – Madrid
Probably one of the most important museums in the world. A real jewel for art lovers. This museum possesses the most extensive collection of pieces of art from artists such as Velázquez, El Greco, Goya, Tiziano, Rubens and El Bosco.

Toledo
We recommend you to take your time and visit all of this beautiful city. Its cathedral, mosque and synagogue, the Jewish neighbourhood, the Alcázar, it’s amazing viewpoints. If you are not familiar with this city, then this is your chance to see it.

Lagos de Covadonga – Asturias
Austria’s natural features are breathtaking. One example are the lovely Lakes of Covadonga. You can find the Enol and the Ercina, of glacial origins, and the third one, the Bricial, where you can find water only during some months of the year. In thi visit you can’t miss the Sanctuary of Covadonga, La Santina, Tres Cruces and the beautiful town of Cangas de Onís.

Basílica del Pilar – Zaragoza
A jewel of the Baroque era, this majestic building stands on the banks of the Ebro River. Goya’s frescos painting, unexploded bombs from the Spanish Civil War and other mysteries await you inside the Basilica del Pilar.

Catedral de la Asunción – Jaén
Probably the most beautiful Renaissance cathedral in Spain. It is said that the Lienzo de la Verónica is kept inside, on which the face of Jesus is printed.

Isla de Tabarca – Alicante
Just 8 nautical miles from Alicante you can find the Tabarca archipelago, where its coastline consists mainly of small cliffs. It was declared a historic and artistic site in 1964 and a marine reserve in 1986. The Isla de Tabarca is an enigmatic place that you have to visit.

Sierra de Tramuntana – Mallorca
The Sierra de Tramuntana is the perfect symbiosis between human creation and nature. It is a monumental human piece of work in which culture, traditions and identity are all mixed. This site is perfect to be visited by car.

Cala Turqueta – Menorca
Cala Turqueta is the cove of your dreams. This location easily can be compared to paradise, and its name says it all. It is one of the most beautiful (and probably the most famous) of the entire island. If you visit Menorca, then you have to make a stop here.

Playa de las Catedrales – Lugo
This enchanting beach is located on the coast of Lugo (or Mariña Lucense). Its main attraction is the set of amazing rock arches sculpted by the force of nature of the Bay of Biscay. Some of these arches, also known as “ollos”, reach more than 30 meters in height. We recommend you to walk through them during low tides.

Alcázar de Segovia
A fairy-tale castle. Surely it has nothing to envy from the famous Neuschwanstein castle. Together with the cathedral and the Roman aqueduct they form the great tourist attractions of Segovia. A place that breathes history from everywhere.

Casas Colgadas – Cuenca
The Hanging Houses or the King’s houses, this location resides on the high rocky ledge of the Huécar river. The proof of its existence dates back to the early 15th century. They have been used both as private homes and as Town Hall.

La Caleta (Barrio la Viña) – Cádiz
This beautiful beach right in the middle of the historic centre served as a port for Phoenician, Carthaginian and Roman ships. This beach is located in the famous neighbourhood of La Viña, a neighbourhood with an eternal and unique essence. La Caleta is the icing of this neighbourhood. You can’t visit “Tacita de plata” if you won’t visit La Caleta and the neighbourhood of La Viña.
