Are we going on a picnic? The island of Mallorca has more than 30 facilities that make it possible. Recreational areas equipped with tables, benches, stoves and grills (often including playgrounds) from which you can enjoy the summer season outside, from the 15th of October to the 1st of May. Near Palma, in the interior or close to the cost, in the following we highlight some of the best places to enjoy a picnic day in Mallorca.

Natural Park of Mondragó

It is located in the east of Mallorca, in the municipality of Santanyí, close to all those bays of white sand and crystal clear waters (one of them, the Cala Mondragó) that characterize the area. Declared a natural park in 1992, it has 15 tables with their corresponding benches, non-potable water points and services; all of it distributed in its two zones enabled for the picnic: one in Sa Font de n’Alis and another one in Cala de S’Amarador. From the picnic areas you can access the various hiking trails that cover the 750 hectares of the park, in which forests of pine trees and wild olive trees are typical, areas of “savina litoral”- typical of the Balearic Islands- or the freshwater pond of S ‘Amarador.

Recreational area of Son Tries

Located in the public estate of the same name, very close to the housing area of Es Verger, in the town of Esporles, it has a wide area of tables and benches, 10 stone barbecues, chemical toilets and a parking area with slots for disabled people. It is especially suitable for families with children since it also has a playground. Nearby is a famous Mallorcan fountain: Sa Font de Dalt. You can also access a nearby viewpoint from which you can see the town of Esporles. All the ingredients to enjoy the perfect picnic day in Mallorca.

Recreational area Monasteri de Lluc

Located between ca S’Amitger and Font Cuberta, in the Sanctuary of Lluc, it is a quiet place with a good number of tables and benches, a source of drinking water and two playgrounds for children. It has large parking lots and access for disabled people. Those responsible for the area often provide firewood (free of charge) for those who wish to use their stoves. In the immediate neighborhoods there are two camping areas. Of course, you can access the Renaissance style basilica (free of charge). In the sanctuary there is also a museum and you can take a pleasant walk (half an hour) to the Monte del Rosario, to digest the food.

Puig de Maria

Another sanctuary, in this case in the municipality of Pollença, which is accessed after a pleasant walk of about 15 minutes from the road. It offers all the services, and there is even coal and firewood available for a small fee. There is a bar and restaurant service and even the possibility of accommodation. You can visit the hermitage, whose origin dates back to the fourteenth century; and the views from the area are absolutely spectacular.

Can Picafort

Can Picafort, in Santa Margalida, also has a perfect recreational area to spend a day of picnic in Mallorca. A large area, with twenty stoves available to visitors, plus services and playground. It is an excellent starting point to visit places such as the necropolis of Son Real, the beaches of Muro or the wide sands of the Bay of Alcúdia.

In addition to these five particularly noteworthy areas, we can recommend the facilities of La Victoria (in Alcudia, and with a public shelter for six people); the recreational area of Cas Garriguer in Bunyola, very close to Palma; the Merendero de Caubet on the Sóller road, only 10 kilometers from the capital; the one located in the hermitage of Nostra Senyora de la Consolació de Sant Joan; the recreational area of Llubí, in the neighborhood of another hermitage, in this case that of Sant Crist; or Son Moragues, located in a public estate in the municipality of Valldemosa: a very complete recreational area with picnic area, bathrooms, barbecue area and shelter, although it does not offer drinking water.

Do you fancy one of these picnic spots? Surely yes. We can only add that we must not forget to leave the natural environment in which we enjoy a picnic in Mallorca exactly as we found it, or even cleaner, in order to continue enjoying these facilities for a long time.
