The amazing beaches in Menorca with a Blue Flag: highest quality

Immerse yourself in their crystal clear water or lie down in the sun, because the beaches of Menorca are still one of the biggest attractions in the island. And not only that, the average quality of its services, sand and water is still considered to be of very high standards. One more year, there is a total of 5 beaches in Menorca with a blue flag. The winners that get this unmistakable quality badge are: Cala Galdana  (in Ferrerías), Son Bou and Cala en Porter (both in Alayor), and Punta Prima and Binibeca Nou (both located in the municipality of San Luis).

Cala Galdana

Also known as Cala Santa Galdana, it is located in the South of Menorca, in the municipality of Ferrerías. It is an authentic paradise despite being declared as a semi-urban space. It is the largest “cala” of Menorca with almost 400 meters in length and 40 in width. It has the fine sand which is typical of the south of the island and has abundant vegetation, it is often visited by peregrine falcons, besides being frequented by sun and sea seekers.

It is considered very safe for swimming thanks to its shell shape. Furthermore, it offers showers, lifeguard and a Red Cross post. Sunbeds, umbrellas and various gadgets for practicing water sports can be rented at the beach. That’s the reason why it is one of the most frequented beaches on the island, both by locals and tourists. It is, without doubt, one of those 10 incredible beaches of Menorca that you shouldn’t miss.

Son Bou

Another amazing beach in Menorca with blue flag is Son Bou. It also belongs to the south coast of Menorca and is located in the municipality of Alayor. It is the largest extension of the whole island with its 2400 meters of length and definitely one of the most touristy ones. Due to its great length the beach is divided into several different areas, including a nudist area located on the west part of the beach.

In addition, it has a very close historical double attraction: within the cliff that limits it to the east, we find the remains of a necropolis of the Talayotic culture excavated in the rock. And at his feet, a paleo-christian basilica.

Cove in Porter

Located in the south of Menorca, in Alayor, Cala en Porter is one of the quietest and cleanest beaches on the island. Framed by two large cliffs, it is another of those typical Menorcan beaches with fine white sand and turquoise and calm water. It has restaurants and a parking lot nearby, as well as a lifeguard and a first aid post.

Once you are there, you cannot miss the Cueva de Xoroi, one of the most visited places in Menorca. Located on one of its cliffs, it has several viewpoints and several terraces at different heights with spectacular views. During day-time, there is abar that turns into a nightclub at night. Furthermore, from Cala en Porter one of the most recommended boat trips in Menorca starts.

Punta Prima

The beach of Punta Prima (also called ‘Playa del aire ‘ in reference to the islet of the same name near its coast) is the most touristy beach of San Luis. It is located 5 kilometers from this town and 10 from Mahón. It has a small promenade with an extensive parking, and a playground. What stands out the most from this beach are its crystal clear and blue waters and the fine, white sand.

This beach is located in the middle of one of the classic roads of the island (Camí de Cavalls) and nearby, there’s the Torre de Alcaufar, a defensive construction from the late eighteenth century.

Binibeca Nou

The fifth and last of the beaches in Menorca with a blue flag, Binibeca Nou, is located southeast of Menorca, in the municipality of San Luis, about 6 kilometers from that town and 10 from Mahón. It is barely 200 meters long and is surrounded by lush pine forests with picnic tables and large shadow areas.

In one of its ends we find a small cove called Cala Torret. In the other, a picturesque beach bar. In addition, it is very important to note that, the beach of Binibeca Nou is very close to one of the most beautiful villages of Menorca: Binibeca Vell.
