The sea breaking on the rocks, a landscape of blues that surrounds it, the magic that it has… a place that transports you to another planet, the Favàritx lighthouse.

This lighthouse was one of the first to be built in Menorca and one that took the longest to be completed, but it was worth it. It is one of the most beautiful place the island has and it will not leave you indifferent.

How did it all start?

To avoid shipwrecks in the first decade of the 20th century, such as the steam Isaac Pereire in 1906 near Sa Mesquida, one of the first lighthouses on the islandthe Favàritx lighthouse, was built in 1917.

But the lack of funds and the problems with the property that they had lengthened its construction until 1922, when it was finally inaugurated.

This lighthouse has a white tower with a black band that is approximately 28 meters high and is 47 meters above sea level. The Favàritx lighthouse is built with the rocks that surround it, black slate rocks, a true wonder.

Favàritx has a special magic and it is not only because of the landscape that surrounds it, but also because of the legend behind the lighthouse. They say that the full moon nights if you step on the puddles that form around you receive all the energy and strength of the moon.

A privileged environment

S'Albufera des Grau, Menorca

The Favàritx lighthouse is located inside the natural park of S’Albufera des Grau, a fascinating place where you will find hundreds of animal and plant species, around 5.000 hectares where to go hiking.

The environment of the Lighthouse has little vegetation, unlike the whole island, there is only one plant that grows there and is the dandelion, a plant that is not typical of the island.

The lighthouse is surrounded by rocks of black slate, a totally different environment than we can see in the rest of the island, this place will catch you and leave you in love.

Also very close there is the Camí de Cavalls, a route that begins in the town of Es Grau and where you can see all tha coastal landscape that Menorca has.
